Emory Swimmers Qualify for Olympic Trials

rising senior Miller Douglas became the second Eagle this season to qualify for the Olympic Trials, following his performance in the 200-meter butterfly at Auburn University earlier this month.

Douglas will join recent Emory graduate Claire Pavlak at the 2012 Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha, Nebraska from June 25 to July 2. 

The preliminaries of the men's 200-meter butterfly will be held during the morning session on Wednesday, June 27.

The semifinals will be held during the evening session later in the day. The finals will be during the evening session on Thursday, June 28.

Douglas recorded a time of 2:02.95 in the qualifying event, surpassing the long-course trial standard of 2:03.99.  He became the first swimmer in the history of the Emory men's program to qualify for the Olympic trials, and just the second Emory swimmer overall.

During the 2011-12 season, his first as an Eagle, Douglas recorded individual all-America honors with a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:46.73, and with a third-place in the 200-yard individual medley with a school-record time of 1:49.69 at the NCAA Division III Championships.

Pavlak will be competing in the women's 50-meter freestyle, the preliminaries of which will be held during the morning session on Sunday, July 1. The semifinals will be held during the evening session on Sunday, while the finals will take place during the evening session on Monday, July 2.

Swimmers selected to the Olympic Team at the trial in Omaha will represent the United States at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.

The Emory University women finished the 2012 season with their third-consecutive NCAA Division III Championship, while the men finished third in the nation. The two squads combined for three individual National Championships and three relay National Titles, while claiming a total of 43 all-America finishes.
