Musical pioneer and cellist Matt Haimovitz will participate in a “Creativity Conversation” playing two pieces by composers George Perle and Robert Stern and discussing their themes.
Haimovitz has inspired classical music lovers and new listeners by bringing his music to both concert halls and alternative venues. In 2000, Haimovitz took Bach's cello suites out of the concert hall and into rock clubs across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. Later, Haimovitz's 50-state Anthem tour celebrated living American composers, and featured his own arrangement of Jimi Hendrix's "Star-Spangled Banner." He was the first classical artist to play at New York's CBGB club, in a performance filmed by ABC News for "Nightline UpClose."
Haimovitz's recording career encompasses more than 20 years of award-winning work including the 2006 Concert Music Award from ASCAP for his advocacy of living composers, and the 2004 Trailblazer Award by the American Music Center, for his far-reaching contributions to American music.
