Taught by veteran naturalist and ecologist Al Tate, the class focuses on nature in and around the Atlanta area and is designed for parents and children to learn together about animals, plants and natural communities they find around their own home and neighborhood.
Bring found “things”-- feathers, unknown plants, insects, wasp nests, snake skins, millipedes, leaves, unusual fruits, spiders, shells, or other unidentified objects. Class starts with show-and-tell to give the children an opportunity to share their excitement then instructor identifies and comments on the items. Class then continues with a featured topic or activity. Then the class brings the topic to life outside in a walk through Fernbank Forest.
