"Jubilee Jim"

"Jubilee Jim" is set in “The Gilded Age”, generally considered one of the most corrupt in history but which also marked the beginnings of real social reform.  The story begins in the wake of the failed attempt by Jay Gould and Jim Fisk, the President and Treasurer of the great Erie Railroad Company, to corner the entire market in gold and the ensuing financial panic of September 24, 1869.  Henry and Charles Adams, then young men in their early thirties, great-grandsons of John Adams and grandsons of John Quincy Adams, set out on an unprecedented quest to investigate the Erie Railroad and the Gold conspiracy, as it was called – or “Jubilee Jim” – and publish their findings in order to try to instigate change and reform in the then-completely unregulated Wall Street stock market.
