Michael Fried Presents Lecture on Douglas Gordon’s Antitheatricality

Friday, Feb.11, 20011, 7 p.m., Michael C. Carlos Museum Reception Hall, 571 South Kilgo Circle, Atlanta, GA 30322, 404-727-6282. Free and open to the public.

Acclaimed art historian Michael Fried of Johns Hopkins University will deliver a lecture on artist Douglas Gordan’s “Antitheatricality.” Fried will show excerpts from and discuss two major works by Douglas Gordon, “Play Dead; Real Time” and “Déjà vu.” His aim will be to demonstrate that, far from being the avatar of postmodernism he is often taken to be, Gordon is a deeply serious artist whose essential commitment is to various forms of antitheatricality.
