Late Arrival to Ballpark Leads to Lackluster Play for Druid Hills

Red Devils get blanked 10-0 at Marietta after getting to the fields minutes before first pitch

Because of a late arrival time for a road game at Marietta High School, had to forego infield practice and rushed to get things in order to play.

They were late arriving to the ballpark and even later on the scoreboard, falling 10-0.

Druid Hills managed just two hits for the entire game and only one against starting pitcher Eric Henderson, who threw five innings of shutout baseball.

Red Devils pitcher Kyle Ludewick definitely had his fastball moving, but location was a problem. Ludewick walked just one batter, but hit five and gave up five hits in three innings of work.

Ludewick, however, was the one Red Devil that notched a hit against Henderson.

Druid Hills fell behind early after a first-inning home run from Marietta shortstop Dansby Swanson. The Red Devils stayed close until the fourth inning when the runs began to pile up for Marietta, forcing Druid Hills head coach Brian Granger to pull his starter from the mound. Marietta scored seven runs in the fourth and never looked back before cruising to victory lane.

Druid Hills moves to 7-6-1with the loss and next plays a doubleheader at home this afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for noon against Decatur. The late game is a 4 p.m. start versus Greater Atlanta Christian.
