Morningside Diners Chow Down for a Cause

In the wake of recent disasters that have affected many families in Georgia and throughout the southeast, some area restaurants are doing what they can to provide relief.

On Wednesdays in July, all a hungry diner has to do to support relief efforts is eat at a neighborhood hot spot. Participating restaurants will donate 15 percent of profits to the Atlanta Red Cross relief fund after diners chow down.

The series was started by Homegrown Restaurants owner Rich Chey, who owns in Morningside as well as Pasta and Pizza in Virginia-Highland.

Doc Chey's manager Melanie Vaughn said Chey has been supporting relief efforts as far back as tsunami relief efforts a few years back.

"The Red Cross has had so much going on and he wanted to get us [the restaurants] involved," Vaughn said.

On July 13, several eateries in the Morningside Village shopping center, including Doc Chey's, joined forces to help out the cause.

Julian McAdamas, owner of , said the restaurant participated because they like to be involved with the community.

"Yoforia likes to help out every body that they can," he said.

Customers stopped in for Ferrero Rocher, cookies and cream and other flavors in support of the cause.

Also participating were , a fine-dining establishment, and , a laidback bar.

Owner Ron Eyester said his restaurants participate in at least a dozen dine out events throughout the year.

"It helps bring awareness to the average diner when part of the benefits of their meal are going to a bigger cause," Eyester said.

Didn't make it out?

Not a problem. Participating restaurants will continue to support the Red cross in Virginia Highlands on July 20 and Emory Village on July 27. Grant Park restaurants joined in on July 6.
