St. John's Lutheran Church to host community conversation on race

Join us for a conversation on how race informs our politics, economics and culture.

St. John’s Lutheran Church will welcome Cathy Crimi, Chair of the ELCA Southeastern Synod Anti-Racism Task Force, for a community conversation entitled, “Race: The Power of an Illusion.” The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. John’s, located at 1410 Ponce De Leon Ave NE in Atlanta.

Rev. Beverly Shaw, Associate Pastor for St. John’s, said the conversation will explore how we divide people into distinct categories that have been rooted into our psyches and never questioned. “We will explore the science of race and the roots of race and how it informs, not only our politics, economics and culture, but how it serves to justify, even rationalize social inequities as ‘natural,’” she said.

Lunch will be provided by the Lutheran Theological Center in Atlanta. Those who would like to attend are asked to RSVP to pastorbeverly@stjohnsatlanta.org. Come and join the conversation and invite your friends and neighbors.
