Coronavirus Prevention Tips Shared By Cobb Co. School District

COBB COUNTY, GA — In an effort to ease fears and combat misinformation, Cobb County School District shared with parents last Wednesday coronavirus prevention tips issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health. In a post published on COBBCAST, the school district noted that while "some may be concerned about reports in various media outlets about the coronavirus (COVID-19) and its potential impact on Cobb County," as educators, they would be "depending on public health professionals to provide information and guidance about the coronavirus."

The Cobb County School District post shared the preventative measures from the DPH, noting that the advice was similar to precautions many parents were likely already taking to prevent flu and other respiratory illnesses, including washing hands thoroughly and often, avoiding close contact with people who are sick and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Other tips include:

• Staying home when sick
• Avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
• Coughing or sneezing into elbow, or use a tissue to cover it, then throw the tissue in the trash

Georgia Department of Public Health commissioner Dr. Kathleen E. Toomey said in the original release that "the DPH is working to make sure our health systems, first responders and
county health departments have the resources they need to respond to a COVID-19 outbreak." The school district also noted in its post that, according to the DPH, the risk of coronavirus in Georgia "remains low."
