• Inmate recaptured after leaving sheriff's office car wash, getting into woman's car (wsbtv.com subscription) — An inmate trustee who walked away from a Douglas County Sheriff's Office car wash job Thursday morning was recaptured later near Barrett Parkway and Macedonia Road in Powder Springs. Local and Cobb County officers searched the area, briefly affecting traffic, but police now say there is no ongoing threat to the public after the 21-year-old was taken back into custody.
   

• Powder Springs Business Beautification Grant applications close Oct. 15 (macon.com) — Powder Springs businesses and property owners can now apply for city beautification grants of $500 to $4,000 to help pay for visible exterior upgrades, with applications due by 5 p.m. on Oct. 15. Eligible storefronts and commercial buildings inside city limits must have current licenses and no code issues, and optional pre-application meetings with city staff run through Sept. 25.
   

• K9 handler donates a vest to dog after his partner was injured (11alive.com) — A police K9 foundation created after another dog lost a leg in the line of duty has just donated its first ballistic vest to K9 Rocky serving in Powder Springs. The founder says better protection and the calming presence of trained dogs can make dangerous encounters safer for both officers and the community they patrol.
