1. Deadline set for Hawaii Hurricane Lala tax penalty waivers (kitv.com) — Honolulu officials have opened a special tax relief window for residents and businesses hit by Hurricane Lala, waiving penalties and interest on certain late state returns between August 20 and October 20. Eligible taxpayers must submit new Form L-115A by October 20, 2026, either online or by mailing it to the Department of Taxation's Honolulu address.

2. Kokua Line: Can I get refund because storm closed Diamond Head? (staradvertiser.com) — If your Diamond Head State Monument visit was canceled by Hurricane Lala, your paid reservation will be automatically refunded, though it may take several weeks to appear. The column also confirms Honolulu's airport lacks shower facilities for layover passengers and warns local veterans about a nationwide scam postcard targeting VA benefits.

3. Nānākuli students join forces with ʻElepaio Social Services to support families post-Lala (khon2.com) — Honolulu-based coverage highlights how Nānākuli High and Intermediate students teamed up with ʻElepaio Social Services to distribute food to more than 500 households after Hurricane Lala. With support from local farms and agencies, the effort also ties into ongoing kūpuna food assistance that now reaches about 1,200 seniors weekly across the community.

4. Lala gone, Hawaii's recovery costs just starting (khon2.com) — From Honolulu, lawmakers are urging Hurricane Lala victims to carefully document damage and gather photos and videos before cleaning up, to avoid insurance claim problems. Hawaii Kai's representative is also surveying residents about frequent outages to push Hawaiian Electric toward a long-term fix for vulnerable transmission lines over the Koʻolau Mountains.
