1. UH Manoa Center for Oral History marks 50-year anniversary (hawaiinewsnow.com) — From its Honolulu campus, UH Mānoa's Center for Oral History is marking 50 years of preserving Hawaii's voices and is rolling out workshops, livestreams, and community events through November. Residents can plug into anniversary programs, including a Museum of Korean Emigration livestream and a new Kahoʻolawe Aloha ʻĀina project, to help keep local stories alive.
   

2. Honolulu Charter Commission questions for voters (khon2.com) — Honolulu voters will see 20 major City Charter questions on the Nov. 3 ballot, covering everything from food security funding and affordable housing to ranked-choice voting and digital privacy. The Charter Commission's proposals also address Native Hawaiian stewardship, immigrant protections in policing, LGBTQIA+ representation, and how key city funds can be used, potentially reshaping local government priorities for years.
   

3. Things to Do on O'ahu in September 2026 (honolulumagazine.com) — September is packed with Honolulu-area happenings, from the Honolulu Century Ride and an Ala Moana beach run to theater productions downtown and a canned-food sculpture contest benefiting Hawaiʻi Foodbank. Residents can also enjoy a fantasy-themed gala in Kāhala, a massive bon dance in Pearl City, and conservation-focused performances in Chinatown.
   

4. Punahou Senior Pens Children's Book about Make-a-Wish Hawaii Kids (kitv.com) — In Honolulu, Punahou senior Nikhil Wong is turning local Make-a-Wish Hawaii kids' experiences into a new children's book, with half the proceeds supporting the nonprofit. His Keiki Stories project and a Kailua reading push led by Olympian Kristi Yamaguchi both spotlight efforts to inspire island keiki to read and feel seen in local stories.
   

5. Man, 36, arrested for alleged unlawful imprisonment of woman in Kailua (staradvertiser.com) — Honolulu police arrested a 36-year-old man early this morning after a woman was allegedly held against her will and assaulted in Kailua. Officers say the incident happened around 2:15 a.m., and the suspect was later located and booked on suspicion of first-degree unlawful imprisonment and abuse of a household member while the investigation continues.
