Students in Honolulu are urged to share any information with UH's Department of Public Safety and are reminded of available advocacy, counseling, and medical support resources on and off campus.
2. Honolulu City Council moves forward with Ala Moana hotel, housing project (hawaiinewsnow.com) — Honolulu residents should know the City Council just cleared a major hotel and housing project at Ala Moana Center, replacing the Macy's parking lot with new towers. The plan includes nearly 300 hotel rooms, 136 condos, and 69 affordable rentals, plus more affordable units elsewhere, street upgrades, and hundreds of jobs, though some workers argue the affordable housing share remains too low.
3. Honolulu City Council considers exterior ads on Skyline, TheBus (hawaiinewsnow.com) — Honolulu riders may soon see ads wrapped around Skyline trains and TheBus as the City Council advances Bill 59 to boost transit revenue by an estimated $6 million a year. Riders and testifiers are split over changing Skyline's look, while councilmembers promise strict rules banning harmful, obscene, or political advertising before any final decision is made.
4. Diamond Bakery celebrates 105 years with free community event (khon2.com) — Honolulu residents are invited to a free community celebration at Diamond Bakery's Kalihi factory on Oct. 12, where the mayor will proclaim "Diamond Bakery Day." From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can enjoy complimentary snacks, factory tours, games, local vendor tastings, and a chance to find Golden Tickets worth $105 in giveaway cracker boxes.
5.
