1. Navy well near Red Hill gets conditional reopening approval amid ongoing contamination concerns (kitv.com) — Honolulu residents are being told the Navy's ʻAiea-Hālawa shaft can reopen under state conditions, even as local water advocates and the Honolulu Board of Water Supply warn that contamination questions remain. They're pushing for more monitoring wells, broader PFAS testing beyond Navy property, and greater transparency to rebuild public trust after the Red Hill fuel crisis.
2. Man charged for allegedly shooting another man with pellet rifle in Ewa Beach (kitv.com) — A 33-year-old man has been charged with second-degree assault after Honolulu police say he shot another man in the chest with a pellet rifle during an argument on Papipi Road in Ewa Beach. The victim was taken from Queen's West Oahu to Queen's Punchbowl in serious condition, and the suspect later surrendered at HPD's main Honolulu station, with bail set at $250,000.
3. Hawaii veterans return from first Honor Flight (hawaiinewsnow.com) — Twenty-five Hawaii veterans, including several from Honolulu, just returned home after the state's first Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., where they visited major war memorials. Participants and family members describe the journey as emotional and healing, offering long-overdue recognition and camaraderie for Korean and Vietnam War veterans who often felt underappreciated when they first came home.
4. Sailors, Marines killed during Pearl Harbor attack and buried as 'unknowns' to be exhumed for identification (fox10phoenix.com) — Families in Honolulu and across the country may soon gain long-awaited closure as the remains of 86 sailors and Marines buried as "unknowns" from the Pearl Harbor attack are exhumed from Punchbowl for DNA identification. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency and civilian group Operation 85 have gathered enough family DNA samples to begin work on the 85th anniversary of the attack.
