Today's riddle: Why do Norway's navy ships all have barcodes? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Boise sustainability programs earn national recognition from the EPA (kivitv.com) — Boise's sustainability work just earned national recognition from the EPA, highlighting local programs that keep biosolids out of landfills and help hold down residents' utility bills. An EPA delegation toured the city's Twenty Mile South Farm, composting operations, food scrap drop-off sites, and Boise Urban Garden School, calling the municipally run farm especially unique and a model for other communities.
2. Boise (ID) Fire to Increase Staffing at Three Fire Stations After Winning Three-Year Grant (firefighternation.com) — Boise Fire just landed a three-year, $2.3 million FEMA grant to hire nine firefighters and expand four-person crews to three more stations, promising faster, safer responses citywide. City officials say the grant covers most costs through 2029, with full four-person staffing at the chosen stations expected to begin after a new recruit academy next spring.
3. Boise State reports rise in rape, stalking reports in 2025 crime data (idahonews.com) — Boise State University is reporting higher numbers of rape and stalking cases in its newly released 2026 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, detailing 2025 campus crime. For Boise residents and students, the data show rising reports of sexual and dating violence alongside shifts in hazing, drug, and liquor violations, offering an important snapshot of current safety concerns on and around campus.
4. Massive project could add 6,800 homes near Micron at I-84 in CBH Homes' largest-ever development (boisedev.com) — A massive 6,800-home "Radiance" development is proposed across I-84 from Micron, with schools, parks, and commercial space that would significantly reshape southeast Boise's fringe. The project, still under Ada County jurisdiction, raises questions about who will provide city-style services, as Boise officials weigh long-term annexation and infrastructure costs for thousands of future residents.
5. Boise not selected for $5 million federal grant to support people experiencing homelessness (kivitv.com) — Boise has learned it was not selected for a $5 million federal grant that would have supported the proposed STREETS initiative for adults experiencing homelessness with behavioral health challenges. City leaders say they'll keep pursuing other partnerships and funding to strengthen coordinated care among first responders, healthcare providers, outreach teams, and housing programs for vulnerable Boise residents.
