1. Here's why you're stuck in traffic lately in downtown Boise — and when it could end (idahostatesman.com) — If you've been crawling through downtown Boise lately, construction for the College of Western Idaho's new campus has temporarily shut westbound Main Street near Whitewater Park Boulevard, squeezing thousands of cars into fewer lanes. Ada County Highway District expects westbound Main to reopen by Oct. 14 and the full project to wrap by Oct. 26, and urges drivers to stay patient and avoid blocking intersections.
2. Timberline High announces investigation into alleged threats of sexual violence (ktvb.com) — Boise families should know that Timberline High School and Boise police are investigating allegedly sexually violent messages linked to Timberline football players, prompting a student walkout. Under a new Idaho law, schools must first report such threats to law enforcement, and the Boise School District is now launching a Title IX investigation and threat assessment that could lead to student discipline.
3. Collister neighbors say pedestrian safety concerns can't wait until 2029 (kivitv.com) — If you walk or bike near Collister Drive and Bloom Street in northwest Boise, neighbors are pushing for safer crossings long before a major $10 million road project scheduled for 2029. ACHD currently says no to temporary fixes, while the Boise Bicycle Project studies traffic and safety to bolster residents' calls for interim improvements.
4. Honor Flight Boise Takes Idaho Veterans to Washington, DC (kidotalkradio.com) — Boise veterans and volunteers are ramping up efforts for the next Honor Flight Boise trip to Washington, D.C., after successfully completing the first flight in several years. Organizers say they need about $75,000 and more volunteer Guardians to accompany local veterans, and they're also highlighting the upcoming Idaho Veterans Parade that will be held in Boise.
5. Idaho reclaims world record with 1,474 pounds of fries (agdaily.com) — Boise residents at Boise Potato Days just helped Idaho reclaim a Guinness World Record by serving 1,474 pounds of fresh-cut French fries, all handed out free to attendees. The Idaho Potato Commission and Spud Daddy led the effort, spotlighting local growers and the state's ideal potato-growing conditions while bringing a high-profile potato title back from overseas.
