Boise Dog Survives 9 Months Alone In Mountains; Returned To Owners

Mo, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, lost her hearing and half her body weight while surviving in the Idaho mountains.

BOISE, ID — A missing Boise dog has been reunited with its owners after spending nine months and a harsh winter alone in the mountains.

Mo, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, wandered away from her owners during a hunting trip in September.

Darwin and Cindy Cameron stayed near the tiny hamlet of Horseshoe Bend for three months looking for their dog. The hamlet is about 30 miles north of Boise. Deep snow and harsh conditions eventually made the search impossible. (For more local news, click here to sign up for real-time news alerts. Dog rescuer Cheri Glankler took in a starving retriever that collapsed at a nearby ranch last month, The Idaho Statesman reported. She posted photos of the dog on Facebook, and word eventually reached the Camerons.

Mo lost her hearing and half her body weight in the wild, but the Camerons knew it was her through her mannerisms and other distinctive details.
