Mayor Lauren McLean announced Maria Weeg as Director of the Office of Community Engagement. Maria leads the Office of Community Engagement’s dedicated staff in fostering strong connections and enhancing meaningful engagement with Boise residents. She provides strategic direction for the city’s presence across all communication channels; develops and implements the city’s marketing, communications, web and social media strategies; and oversees public relations and outreach.
Maria, a former partner in Hilltop Public Solutions’ Idaho office, has years of experience in issue advocacy and campaign management. She has a robust background in communications as a senior strategist spanning multiple industries and has a passion for building authentic connections with people. Her work has been focused on initiatives with lasting impact, including local non-discrimination ordinances that protect the LGBTQIA+ community, preserving Boise’s Foothills and national wilderness areas, working to combat climate change, and increasing early education opportunities for Idaho’s youngest children. With a sharp focus on public engagement, she is well known for developing strategic and targeted communications programs, building strong grassroots coalitions and finding creative solutions for challenging issues. Her focus on innovative process helps her to build timely and relevant informational campaigns.
