Montessori Academy Students Hold Celebratory Ladybug Release

Students recognized Earth Day by releasing 2,000 ladybugs in their schoolyard to help local vegetation

Students at Montessori Academy Parkcenter in Boise have caught the environmental bug! On April 22, students celebrated Earth Day and taking care of the planet by releasing 2,000 ladybugs throughout the schoolyard and back into the environment on plants, flowers and trees. Students were dressed for the occasion as their favorite insects, wearing bug costumes with their faces painted. Throughout the day, students also planted gardens around the school, built bug hotels and participated in activities to learn about waste.

Leading up to Earth Day, students learned that ladybugs serve as a natural pesticide by feeding on insects that could otherwise harm the health of gardens, trees and shrubs. Montessori Academy Parkcenter teaches the importance of community and exploring nature at an early age.
