Montessori Academy Students in Meridian Release Ladybugs

Students celebrated Earth Day and protecting the environment by releasing beneficial bugs into their schoolyard

On April 20, students at Montessori Academy in Meridian explored a bug’s life in celebration of Earth Day as they released ladybugs throughout the schoolyard and back into the environment on plants, flowers and trees. Students and teachers were dressed for the occasion, wearing blue and green clothing in honor of Earth Day. In addition to the ladybug release, students painted colorful planters that will be used in classrooms throughout the year, as well as participated in a garden clean-up to prepare for planting projects later this spring.

Leading up to Earth Day, students learned that ladybugs serve as a natural pesticide by feeding on insects that could otherwise harm the health of gardens, trees and shrubs. Montessori Academy teaches the importance of community and exploring nature at an early age.
