Today's riddle: What do you call a one-legged Big Foot? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinal men remain composed, remain in first in SWAC standings (cdapress.com) — North Idaho College teams just wrapped a tense weekend, with men's soccer preserving first place in the Scenic West after a heated 1-1 draw, and women's soccer and volleyball falling to nationally ranked Salt Lake. In Coeur d'Alene, local standouts from Coeur d'Alene High contributed big numbers in the Cardinals' home volleyball loss, and NIC now turns to key home matches next weekend.
2. Car falls three stories from north Idaho parking garage, minor injuries reported (eastidahonews.com) — A car plunged from the third floor of the Coeur d'Alene Resort parking garage, landing on its roof and sending two occupants to the hospital with minor injuries, according to local firefighters. Crews found the pair already out of the vehicle, and resort staff are now repairing the damaged barrier, recalling a more tragic garage fall in Spokane two decades ago.
3. Grizzly spotted in Cd'A National Forest (lmtribune.com) — Wildlife officials have confirmed a grizzly bear sighting in the Coeur d'Alene National Forest, about an hour and a half from town, making this an unusual but not unprecedented visit to Kootenai County. As grizzly populations grow across the Panhandle, Fish and Game says bears are roaming into new areas, reminding Coeur d'Alene-area hunters and recreationists to stay alert in the backcountry.
4. Idaho drivers feeling more pain with 13-cent gas price jump (eastidahonews.com) — Drivers in Coeur d'Alene are now paying about $4.62 for a gallon of regular gas, as Idaho prices jump 13 cents in a week and remain among the nation's highest. AAA blames rising crude oil costs and global conflicts, warning that many Idaho families are shifting into financial "survival mode" as fuel eats more of their budgets.
5. America's Best State To Live In For 2026 Isn't California Or Texas (planetware.com) — Idaho has been ranked the best state to live in for 2026, and Coeur d'Alene is highlighted as one of its key regional hubs with strong job growth and big community events like the downtown Street Fair. The piece notes the area's outdoor recreation, nearby airports, and growing economy, while also flagging statewide concerns about rising costs and middling education and health rankings.
