1. Idaho Falls Zoo to open new exhibit Sept. 3 (postregister.com) — Idaho Falls families will soon have a major new reason to visit Tautphaus Park: the zoo's immersive Islands exhibit opens Sept. 3 and focuses on wildlife habitat and conservation. Funded entirely by donors and sponsors, the attraction blends animal encounters, interactive play, and education, and is billed as one of the zoo's most significant additions in years.
2. New scam targets friends and family of local jail inmates (postregister.com) — Law enforcement is warning Idaho Falls residents about a new phone scam that targets friends and family of people held at the Bonneville County Jail. Scammers pose as officers arranging an inmate's release and demand payment over the phone for bonds, probation or ankle monitors, but the sheriff's office says legitimate fees are only handled in person and never via credit cards, money cards or crypto ATMs.
3. Thunder Ridge teacher brings national STEM experience back to Eastern Idaho (localnews8.com) — A longtime Thunder Ridge High School math teacher from Idaho Falls has just returned from an elite national STEM fellowship in Washington, D.C., and is now bringing those connections and ideas back to Bonneville Joint School District 93. Her work with the U.S. Air Force and national science organizations focused on turning cutting-edge research into classroom-ready experiences that can strengthen local STEM teaching and student opportunities.
4. Idaho named #1 state to live in (localnews8.com) — Idaho has just been ranked the number one state to live in, and Idaho Falls leaders say the community's friendliness, safety, and outdoor access are big reasons why. Local voices highlight relatively affordable housing, low taxes and utilities, short commutes, and strong schools, even as they acknowledge rising costs that especially challenge younger residents.
