1. 2,071 steps, 25 years later: Idaho Falls hosts fourth annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb for first responders (idahopress.com) — Idaho Falls is again hosting a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the Idaho Falls Malting Facility, where first responders can replicate the 2,071 steps of the Twin Towers through Sept. 11. While the climb is limited to police, fire, and other responders, residents are encouraged to honor them by donating to local charities, visiting Idaho Falls memorials, or supporting related weekend events.
2. Welcome to Paradise: New Island exhibit opens at Idaho Falls Zoo (localnews8.com) — Idaho Falls families can now explore a new "Islands" exhibit at the Idaho Falls Zoo, featuring lemurs, tortoises, a fossa, and rare Hawaiian nēnē geese. Zoo staff say the immersive habitats have been seven years in the making and aim to teach visitors about unique island wildlife and conservation challenges while giving the community fresh, up-close animal experiences through September.
3. What moms need to know about postpartum psychosis and anxiety (localnews8.com) — In Idaho Falls, a local perinatal mental health therapist is urging new moms and families to recognize the warning signs of postpartum psychosis, depression, and anxiety and to seek help quickly, especially when sleep disappears. She explains that scary intrusive thoughts are common, treatable symptoms, not proof of being a bad mother, and points residents to hotlines and support groups that can connect them with specialized care.
4. Four East Idaho first responders awarded Idaho Medal of Honor (idahopress.com) — Two Idaho Falls Fire Department senior firefighters have received the Idaho Medal of Honor for rescuing four people from an overturned car in a Bingham County canal while off duty and without safety gear. Alongside two decorated Pocatello officers and other Idaho first responders, they were honored at the State Capitol for risking their lives to save others, highlighting the courage and compassion of local emergency crews.
5. Idaho Falls volleyball rallies past Bonneville, wins in four sets (postregister.com) — Idaho Falls High School's volleyball team picked up a key conference win Thursday, rallying to beat Bonneville in four sets on the road. Strong performances from hitters Leah Thomas and Chloe Ball, libero Oakley Parker, and setter Brittni Livingston helped the Tigers overcome an early deficit and stay unbeaten in 5A High Country Conference play.
