• Eastern Idaho spud harvest underway as farmers grapple with drought, heat (ksl.com) — Oakley farmer Randy Hardy is cutting back potato acreage and relying heavily on groundwater as the Lower Goose Creek Reservoir, run by the Oakley Canal Company, nears empty after a brutal drought and hot summer. He and other eastern Idaho growers expect smaller, lower-yield crops this year, even as rising potato prices offer some financial hope heading into next season.
