115 Heat Index, Excessive Heat Watch Issued For Chicago Area
Heat and humidity will be at potentially dangerous levels this week, especially Wednesday and Thursday.
ILLINOIS — Extreme heat and temperatures around 100 degrees are possible later this week for the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service.
An excessive heat watch has already been issued starting Wednesday morning through Thursday evening for McHenry, Lake, DuPage and Cook counties.
The weather service said it will be "dangerously hot" and heat index values up to 115 are possible.

The beginning of the week will still be quite warm, with a high of 90 degrees on Monday, and 93 on Tuesday. Peak heat indices could be as high as 105 on Tuesday, according to the weather service.
Heat indices of 115 are possible on Wednesday, and up to 110 on Thursday. The weather service said that if storms develop over Lake Michigan on Wednesday or Thursday, then this could disrupt the hot air mass.

An excessive heat watch advises people to be prepared, and begin to reschedule outdoor activities in the coming days, the weather service said. Children, the elderly and pets should have a place to cool off during the heat.
