Remaining BuyBuy Baby Stores In IL Closing A Year After Resurrection

ILLINOIS— BuyBuy Baby is closing all of its stores nationwide, including four in Illinois, to concentrate on an online-only model a year after new buyers tried to revive the brand.

In August 2023, four BuyBuy Baby stores remained open following a closure announcement two months earlier. Those stores were located in Downers Grove, Naperville, Crystal Lake and Schaumburg. With the recent news, all have closed or are in the process of closing.

“With this shift, we’ve come to the difficult decision of closing our physical stores by the end of this year,” the company said in a statement on its website. “We understand this may be disappointing news, and we want all our customers to know this wasn’t a choice we took lightly.”

Closing sales are already in progress, and gift cards will be accepted at all locations until Oct. 31. The company said it will keep its popular baby registries on its website, where the use of gift cards will also be managed.

BuyBuy Baby once had about 120 brick-and-mortar stores. The attempt to resurrect BuyBuy Baby only lasted about 12 months. In bankruptcy proceedings last year, former parent Bed Bath & Beyond sold BuyBuy Baby’s intellectual property and trademark rights for $15.5 million to New Jersey-based Dream On Me Industries.
