4 Inches Of Snow Possible, Weather Advisory Issued For South Suburbs

Here's the timeline for the snowfall, which will affect your Wednesday morning commute.

ILLINOIS — A winter weather advisory has been issued for areas south of Chicago, as 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected on Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from midnight to 6 p.m. on Wednesday for La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, southern Cook, and Will counties.

The weather service said on Twitter that the advisory may expand more northward.

Snow will arrive late Tuesday and continue into Wednesday, according to the weather service. Hazardous travel conditions are possible for the morning commute.

According to the weather service's projected timeline, accumulating snow could hit much of the area between 2 and 5 a.m. Wednesday and the City of Chicago and northern suburbs between 4 and 7 a.m.

Impacts to travel will most likely ease Wednesday afternoon as snow stops and temperatures start to warm, according to the weather service.

The main impact from the snow will be 1 to 2 hours after it begins through about noon on Wednesday.

AccuWeather gave a 54 percent chance for 1 to 3 inches of snow for Joliet, and a 39 percent chance of 3 to 6 inches of snow. The private forecaster called for "intermittent, wet snow" which could disrupt travel.

Scattered snow showers are also possible on Thursday, which will have a high of 31 degrees, according to the weather service.
