Storms, 55 MPH Winds Could Cause Power Outages, Downed Trees In IL

A wind advisory is in place for several Chicago-area counties.

ILLINOIS — Take down any loose Halloween decorations and secure lawn furniture Friday night before strong winds move into the area on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, a fall storm system will hit the Chicago area Saturday, with winds up to 55 mph possible.

A wind advisory has been issued for 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday for McHenry, Lake, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage and Cook counties. Winds will start early Saturday and continue through sunset, the weather service said.

There could be downed tree branches and scattered power outages, NWS said.

With the strong winds on Saturday, there will also be waves of showers and a few thunderstorms. The high for Saturday is still above average at 62 degrees, but temperatures will fall into the 40s on Saturday night, according to the weather service.

AccuWeather also called for a very windy Saturday, with "some rain and a t-storm in the morning." The private forecaster said gusts could be up to 50 mph for Chicago and gave a 61 percent chance of precipitation, with rain at .13 inches.

Sunday will be sunny and dry, with a high of 65 degrees.

Above average temperatures continue into the start of the work week, with a high of 60 expected on Monday and a high of 64 on Tuesday, according to the weather service.
