ILLINOIS — You're not tired of cicadas, are you?
Weeks after one brewery announced a cicada-infused shot, another has come up with a new creation: how about a sip of cicada-inspired beer?
Plus, an iconic ice cream empire was sold at auction, a celebrity chef is opening a new suburban location, and a battle between a music festival and a brewer is heating up again.
Here's a look at some of Illinois Patch's top business stories:
Brewed XIII is named after the brood of cicadas that emerged this summer after spending 17 years underground. "The hibiscus shandy is deep red, inspired by the eyes of the insect," said head brewer Adam Brose, who crafted the beer. "It bursts with refreshing tropical vibes, thanks to infusions of lemonade and hibiscus tea. The beer, which contains no dye or cicadas, is floral and fruity."
The celebrity chef opened the second Chicago-area location of the Mexico City-style torteria — a "sister restaurant" of his O'Hare restaurant.
A wealthy suburb's largest property owner is set to take over the bankrupt Oberweis Dairy and its chain of ice cream stores. The undisclosed, winning bid, which now requires a sign-off from a bankruptcy judge to be complete, was somewhere north of $20 million.
Following a breakdown in settlement talks, the Ravinia Festival Association filed an amended complaint against the Ravinia Brewing Company, alleging trademark infringement over the use of the "Ravinia" neighborhood's name.
The school is at risk of closing its doors after more than 40 years of operation. The COVID-19 pandemic and changes in the education system affected enrollment, according to a GoFundMe campaign started by the school in an effort to raise money to keep it running.
The town's first-ever Restaurant Week features 16 restaurant chamber members, with more signing up every day.
Once the site of a bar, now there's a brand-new pharmacy and medical supply store, which is adding a cigar selection and a beer cave.
The grand opening features a ribbon-cutting ceremony, bonus cards, free prizes and more.
