Stormy, Hot And Humid Weather Expected Through The Week For Chicago Area

Here's when the area will see the greatest threat for severe weather.

A "very warm, humid, and at times, stormy pattern" is expected most of this week for the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service.

First, Monday will have a high of 83 degrees, and there is an elevated thunderstorm risk and elevated flooding risk. The weather service said several periods of showers and storms are expected Monday.

"The strongest will produce torrential rainfall rates, which may lead to localized flash flooding. In addition, a funnel cloud cannot be ruled out," the weather service said.

Then, from Tuesday night through Thursday, there is again a limited to elevated flooding risk at times, and a limited to elevated severe storm risk at times.

The weather service said several periods of severe storms may occur Tuesday night through Thursday. The greatest threat for severe weather locally will be Thursday.

With the storms comes increasing heat as well, with a high of 88 degrees on Tuesday, 92 on Wednesday and 89 on Thursday. It will also be humid the entire week, according to the current forecast.

Here is a more detailed look at the weather this week, per the weather service:

MONDAY: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 4 p.m. High near 82. South southeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

MONDAY NIGHT: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1am, then showers likely. Low around 70. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

TUESDAY: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 7 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

TUESDAY NIGHT: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a low around 71. West wind around 5 mph becoming south southeast in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. Breezy, with a southwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

THURSDAY: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64.

FRIDAY: Sunny, with a high near 84.

FRIDAY NIGHT: A chance of showers before 1 a.m. Mostly clear, with a low around 64.
