7 Family Members Shot, 5 Dead In Illinois As 2 Teenagers Taken Into Custody: State Police

"At least seven members of the target family were shot at multiple locations," ISP said.

EAST ST. LOUIS, IL —Seven family members were shot, five fatally, and two teenage suspects were in custody in southern Illinois after being captured by police.

State police called the killings a "targeted mass shooting," saying the family members were shot at multiple locations in East St. Louis.

The suspects, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, were taken into custody Sunday after troopers performed a "PIT" (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver on their vehicle.

Police said the dead were identified as:

Illinois State Police said they have been in close contact with the state's attorney's office and are seeking charges against the two teenagers. At least one of the teens is related to at least one of the victims, according to police.

"There is no known threat to the public at this time," police said in a statement on Sunday.

During a news conference on Sunday, ISP said shooting locations included 39th and Summit, Jones Park and the Gompers public housing project.

The two surviving victims were taken with serious injuries to a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
