Hot and humid conditions return to the Chicago area this week, with highs in the 90s expected, according to the National Weather Service.
"Conditions will be dry, but chances for showers increase closer to the weekend," the weather service said.
Daily highs will be in the low to mid-90s, and peak heat index values around 100 degrees are possible. Tuesday and Wednesday look like the hottest days of the week, the weather service said.
Closer to the lake, there will be lake breezes to relieve the heat.
Heat Safety
The weather service advises staying indoors in air conditioning whenever possible during a heat wave. You should also remain hydrated by drinking water, and you should check on those most vulnerable to heat, including children and seniors.
