A day after at least three tornadoes touched down during a derecho that has left over 140,000 people still without power, a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for some parts of the Chicago area as another line of storms is possible Wednesday.
Damaging winds, hail and a "brief tornado or two" are possible, the National Weather Service said.
The severe storm watch has been issued for Cook, DuPage, Kane, DeKalb, Kankakee, Kendall and Will counties in the Chicago area until 1 p.m. Wednesday.
A severe storm warning was in effect for Kendall, Grundy and southern Kane, including Aurora, Oswego and Batavia, until 10 a.m. NWS said the storm contains wind gusts up to 70 mph.
The National Weather Service said damaging wind gusts will be the primary threat with these storms, but a "brief south tornado" can't be ruled out.
"At this time, the greatest risk of severe would appear to be from the I-88 corridor south and eastward," the weather service said.
Storms will begin to move into the Chicago area around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The severe weather on Wednesday comes after three tornadoes were confirmed so far on Tuesday. The weather service said one tornado occurred in southern Cook County along the border with Will County, one in eastern Will County and the third in northeast Will County.

Over 140,000 customers are still without power as of 8 a.m. Wednesday after Tuesday's severe weather, according to the ComEd Outage Map.
The weather service said this "active weather pattern" will continue into the weekend. Storms may be strong to severe at times and could bring heavy rain, which could lead to flash flooding.
