Popular Frozen Dessert Recalled, May Contain Glass Shards: What IL Consumers Should Know

Outshine Fruit Bars have been voluntarily recalled by their parent company after shards of glass were found in the products, according to an announcement published by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream Inc. said that the contamination is restricted to only select Outshine bar flavors: strawberry, watermelon, grape, tangerine and black cherry.

The recall applies to the six-packs of 2.5-ounce fruit bars and the 24-count of 2.5-ounce bars.

The Outshine bars have been distributed to retailers nationwide.

"Dreyer's is taking this action out of an abundance of caution following consumer reports of glass found in the product," the FDA said in a statement.

"No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date. Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider immediately. Consumers who have purchased the affected product should dispose of it or return it to their place of purchase for a full refund."

No other Outshine products are impacted, the FDA said.

It is not yet clear how the glass wound up inside the bars. An investigation is underway.
