Dangerous Temps With Heat Index Of 110 Possible Tuesday, Wednesday For Chicago Area

The National Weather Service has issued two days worth of heat advisories for Tuesday and Wednesday as dangerous heat is expected.

The heat advisory is in effect from noon to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, and again on Wednesday from noon to 9 p.m. for Kendall, La Salle, Grundy, Kankakee, Cook, Will, Lake, McHenry, DuPage, Kane and DeKalb counties.

The weather service said hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses, with heat index values of 100 to 110 expected.

"There is a low, 10 to 20 percent chance, of severe weather today. The more likely outcome is no storms occur," the weather service shared.

Dangerous heat may continue into Thursday and Friday too, especially south of Interstate 80, according to the weather service. Waves of severe storms may also move through the area on Thursday and Friday.

Heat Safety

The weather service advises staying indoors in air conditioning whenever possible during dangerous heat. You should also remain hydrated by drinking water, and you should check on those most vulnerable to heat, including children and seniors.

Signs of heat exhaustion includes dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea and weakness. Signs of heat stroke includes confusion, dizziness and becoming unconscious. Heat stroke can cause death or permanent disability if emergency treatment is not given.
