The two largest cities in Illinois were among those studied in a new ranking of the best places to retire in the U.S.
WalletHub compared 182 cities for its newly released ranking. The list includes the 150 most populated cities in the United States, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state.
From Illinois, Chicago and Aurora made the list, but they didn't even land among the top half of the rankings. Chicago came in at No. 97 on the list, while Aurora was ranked at No. 130.

The Florida cities topped the list, in large part due to Florida's lack of taxes on income, estates or inheritance, according to WalletHub.
The analysis also found that around 61 percent of workers are "somewhat confident" they'll have enough money to retire comfortably, while 21 percent say they're "very confident." The median expected retirement age falls at 65 in the United States.
"It's important to choose wisely when picking where to retire, as many retirees are on a fixed income," Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst, said in a statement. "As a result, the best cities for retired people are those that minimize taxes and expenses, as well as have good opportunities for retirees to continue paid work for extra income, if they choose to do so. In addition, the top cities provide high-quality health care and offer plenty of enjoyable activities for retirees."
To compare retirement-friendly cities, WalletHub evaluated the 182 towns using relevant metrics in four categories: affordability, activities, quality of life and healthcare. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the most favorable conditions for retirement. Scores were also adjusted based on city size to avoid overcompensating for differences between cities.
The study assumed retirees will rely on a fixed income and considered only each city proper, not towns in surrounding metro areas.
