Another day of heat and humidity is expected on Friday, before some relief from the heat on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service Chicago.
Friday will have peak afternoon heat index values of 100 to 110, the weather service said.
A heat advisory remains in effect for DuPage, Kendall, La Salle, Grundy, southern Cook and Will counties until 10 p.m. Friday.
For those north of Interstate 80, some relief from the heat will come on Saturday. And then, "heat and humidity will lessen its grip on the area by Sunday and Monday," the weather service said.
Sunday and Monday both look to have highs in the mid-80s.
"Most of the holiday weekend should be rain-free," the weather service said.
There is a low chance of rain or storms on Friday night, but otherwise, dry weather is expected.
Here is a more detailed look at the weather for Labor Day weekend, per the weather service:
FRIDAY: Sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 104. East northeast wind 5 to 15 mph becoming south southwest. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
FRIDAY NIGHT: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
SATURDAY: A 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Heat index values as high as 96. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north northeast in the morning.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. East northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82.
MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 65.
