Flood Risk As Up To 4 Inches Of Rain Possible By Sunday In Chicago Area

Localized flooding is possible this weekend as multiple rounds of heavy rain is possible, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service said widespread rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible by Sunday night, with higher amounts locally.

First, Friday will have a high of 79 degrees. Heavy rain is then possible late Friday into Saturday.

The heaviest rain is expected along and north of Interstate 80. Flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas could occur, as well as rising river levels, including the Des Plaines, Fox, DuPage and Illinois rivers, the weather service said.

According to the weather service, the rain chances will diminish early next work week, with cooler temperatures in the 60s.

FRIDAY: Partly sunny, with a high near 73. East wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 5 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. East southeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

SATURDAY: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 p.m. High near 74. South wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 63. North northeast wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

SUNDAY: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 69. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%
