Body Found In Illinois Storage Unit, Woman Charged: Police

Police responded to a call about a suspicious odor and found a large box containing decomposed human remains, authorities said.

MAQUON, IL — A central Illinois woman is charged after police found a decomposing body in a storage unit, according to law enforcement.

Marcy L. Oglesby, 50, of Maquon, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of concealment of death, a Class 4 felony, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, which said the investigation is still ongoing.

The body was found about 6 p.m. Friday when deputies responded to a storage facility in Maquon after receiving a complaint about a suspicious odor, police said. Authorities met with the manager of the business and the owner of the storage unit that was the source of the smell, according to police. The owner opened the unit but claimed the odor was a dead possum, police said.

Inside the unit was a large box, according to police, who said that when they asked the owner to open the box, the owner told them it contained a body. Authorities confirmed the box was filled with decomposed human remains, according to police.

The owner was detained and later taken to a hospital, police said.

Oglesby’s bond was set at $10,000 and she was also arrested on two unrelated Fulton County warrants for fraud and deceptive practices, according to police.
