Child Brought Gun To Elementary School In Illinois: Police
The weapon was found in the student's book bag the same day as the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting, according to police.
SPRINGFIELD, IL — An elementary student brought a gun to school Tuesday in Springfield, according to reports.
Officers responded to Lee School about 10:20 a.m., police said, noting the gun was secured by staff and was not displayed by the student. The weapon was found in the child’s book bag, according to WICS, which reported the student brought the gun from home.
“Given this incident and the recent tragedy in Ulvalde, Texas, Springfield Police officers will be providing extra patrol at the schools until the end of the school year,” police said.
