Cooler, Rainy Start To Week Before Temps Hit 90 Degrees In Illinois

ILLINOIS — The week will start cooler before temps warm to near 90 degrees later in the week, according to the National Weather Service. There are also periodic chances of rain through Tuesday, but rain amounts will be fairly light.

With a high of only 72 on Monday, the weather service said a record daily low was set in Rockford on Monday morning. It was 41 degrees, which broke the record low of 44, which was set in 1913.

There is also an elevated fire weather risk, and a high swim risk on Monday. Dangerous swimming conditions will continue Monday morning at Illinois beaches, the weather service said.

Winds will gust to 25 mph Monday afternoon, and there will also be humidity values falling to 25 to 35 percent, leading to an elevated fire danger on Monday afternoon, according to the weather service.

Tuesday will also be cooler, with a high of 72 for the Chicago metro, and warmer in northwest and central Illinois, with a high of 80 degrees. Showers are possible Tuesday, ending on Tuesday evening, according to the weather service.

Things begin to dry out mid-week, as temps warm into the 80s and near 90. There is a high of 84 on Wednesday, a high of 89 on Thursday and a high of 87 on Friday.

A chance of showers and storms returns Friday night, and into the weekend, according to the weather service forecast.
