Dad Charged With Home Invasion, Accused In Carbondale Child Abduction

The father, who lives in California, was involved in a custody dispute with a resident, police said.

CARBONDALE, IL — A California man is accused of forcing his way into a Carbondale home and taking his son in a Monday morning home invasion, Carbondale police said. Demareonta A. Jones, 22, of Sacramento, entered an apartment in the 1100 block of East Walnut Street at around 11:30 a.m. Monday and battered a resident before taking his son and leaving the area in a vehicle, police said. Officers were able to locate the child, who was unhurt, within an hour, according to a news release from Carbondale police.

Jones, who is the non-custodial parent, was involved in a custody dispute over the child, police said.

Jones was charged with home invasion, criminal damage to property and interfering with a 911 call. He was taken to to the Jackson County jail, police said.
