Daily Storm Chances, Temps Near 80 For Chicago Area

Strong to severe storms are possible Monday night and Tuesday.

"Unsettled" weather will bring waves of showers and storms this week, as well as temperatures near 80 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday has a high of 80 degrees, and there is a chance of storms Monday night "though chances ramp up areawide Tuesday afternoon and evening as a cold front shifts over the area," the weather service said.

A few storms could be strong to severe with hail and gusty winds, according to the weather service.

Tuesday will also be warm with a high of 81 degrees.

"Additional periods of soaking rainfall are expected Wednesday night through Thursday which could result in localized flooding," the weather service said.

Temperatures cool slightly on Wednesday, which has a high of 54, but then warm again for the end of the week with a high of 71 on Thursday and 70 on Friday. There are also chances of storms on Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday night.

Here is a more detailed look at the weather for the week, per the weather service:

MONDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

MONDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

TUESDAY: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly after 4 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m., then a chance of showers. Low around 39. West northwest wind around 15 mph becoming north northeast after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

WEDNESDAY: Showers likely, mainly after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. Breezy, with a northeast wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Showers. Low around 40. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

THURSDAY: Showers. High near 65. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Showers, mainly before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48.

FRIDAY: A chance of showers after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 62.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Showers likely, mainly after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45.
