Dangerous Heat: 115 Heat Index, Severe Storms Possible In IL
Excessive heat warnings and heat advisories are in effect for most of the Chicago area until 9 p.m. Friday.
ILLINOIS — Dangerous heat continues on Friday as peak heat indices of 110 are expected, according to the National Weather Service. In addition to the hot and humid conditions, severe storms are also expected Friday night.

The weather service advised drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air conditioning, out of the sun, and to check on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should also never be left in vehicles.

Signs of heat exhaustion include dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea and weakness, the weather service said. Signs of heat stroke include confusion, dizziness and becoming unconscious.
Severe storms are most likely between 4 p.m. and midnight Friday, and could bring damaging winds, damaging hail and torrential rainfall, the weather service said.

Torrential rain could leak to flash flooding in some areas.
After storms leave the area on Friday, temperatures will cool for the weekend, with a high of 86 expected on Saturday and a high of 84 on Sunday. Weather will turn cooler and less humid for the start of the week as well, according to the weather service.
