Dangerous Heat Wave Starts Monday For Chicago Area
The entire Chicago area is under heat advisories or an extreme heat warning, and the heat index could climb to above 105 degrees.
An extreme heat warning and heat advisories will go into effect at noon on Monday, lasting until 10 p.m. Wednesday for all of the Chicago area.
The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for Cook County, while all other Chicago-area counties were issued a heat advisory.
The weather service said heat index values could be around 105 each afternoon.

"Heat index values will remain above 75 in most areas tonight, offering little relief from the heat," the weather service said.
According to weather service data, the highest heat index value will be 108 degrees, which could be hit Tuesday afternoon in Joliet and Elgin.

The dangerous heat could also continue into the weekend, depending on possible thunderstorm coverage. The threat for storms increases on Thursday and Friday.
"It does appear that a more active pattern will return by the weekend, with a return of more frequent thunderstorm chances," the weather service said.
Heat Safety
The weather service advises staying indoors in air conditioning whenever possible during a heat wave. You should also remain hydrated by drinking water, and you should check on those most vulnerable to heat, including children and seniors.
If you have to go outside, "go early or late in the day, and dress in light-colored clothing," the weather service said.
