Man Crossing Road On Lawnmower Killed By Semi: Police
The truck driver swerved and tried to stop but struck the side of the lawnmower, ejecting the man, police said.
SANGAMON COUNTY, IL — An older man died after he was hit by a semitrailer while driving a lawnmower across a state highway in central Illinois, according to police.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on Route 124 near Barber Road in Sangamon County, state police said.
A 74-year-old man from Sherman had been mowing grass on the west side of Route 124 and started to cross the highway, entering the path of the southbound semi, according to police. The truck driver swerved and tried to stop but struck the side of the lawnmower, ejecting the man, police said.

The driver of the lawnmower was taken to an area hospital, where he died, according to police.
