Escaped Inmates: Massive Manhunt, Possible Sighting In Illinois

One of three escaped inmates was caught, but two others — including an accused killer — were still at large.

CARMI, IL — Carmi Police Department reported one of three inmates who escaped from the White County Jail in southeast Illinois early Saturday morning was captured that night. CPD reported 28-year-old Justin Bray was in custody, and is being charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

As of Tuesday a massive manhunt is underway for Johnny Tipton, 61, and Zachery Shock, 24. Police are warning members of the public to be on alert as the two men are considered dangerous, and say do not attempt to approach them.

Shock, 24, was being held on charges of murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. Police say he's described as being 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 175 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

Tipton, 61, is wanted for theft and possession of stolen property. Authorities say he is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 200 pounds with gray hair and blue eyes.

CPD reported that at approximately 5:30 a.m. on June 16, White County Corrections Officers advised that three inmates had escaped from the jail by using a pipe to break a hole in the wall in order to get outside.

Police say outside video showed all three subjects running on foot down an alley at 3:05 a.m.

On Monday, Hamilton County, Illinois Sheriff Robert Crow said a possible sighting of Shock and Tipton was reported, according to KMOV.

ABC Chicago adds that Bray, now in custody, is also being charged with aggravated fleeing and resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and faces an additional charge for escaping and another $1 million bond.
