ACROSS ILLINOIS — To celebrate Father's Day 2022, we asked Illinois Patch readers to send in "dad"-ications that sum up everything their fathers have done to help make them who we are. "My dad has has a serious health issue over the last two years. It started at the beginning of the pandemic and was a complete shock. We did not know if he would make it! The worst part was at many points because of the lockdown were not even able to be with him while he struggled. As a close, loving Italian family this nearly crushed us! My dad is a Best Friend to me. He taught me love, strength, acceptance, faith, how to fish, and much, much more. He is the FOUNDATION of our family. We never gave up hope and neither did he. Thank You, God, for letting my daddy pull through medical hell. I love you more than words can ever say. The lessons you taught me will live way beyond your lifetime. They have been taught to my children and they will live on through their children one day. Thank you so much for all you do for us, Dad.

"My Papi’s name is Mike Lewis. He’s important to me because he stepped up to be my Papi when no one else was. He chose to take me in as a son. He got me back into baseball and became my coach for a couple of years and those years were the best bonding years that we had. He always knows how to make someone laugh when they are having a bad day. He’s just an all around goofy person and has made me realize not everything is so serious in life and to have fun. What can I say he’s the best Papi ever!"

For Thomas Stetz from Laurie Smith

"My dad taught me how to garden, how to fish and how to enjoy ice cream! He also taught me how to play a mean game of Monopoly! He is no longer here but I'd love to honor him and all he did for me in my lifetime."

To Daniel O'Sullivan from Audrey O'Sullivan

"You may find this cheesy, but it’s better than a card, so accept it. I want you to know that you are the best dad I could ever ask for, no matter what. You are my dance partner, my drink taste-tester, my goofy best friend, and I love you so much. Happy Father’s Day, Monchichi!"
