Giant Moth, Giant Moth, Giant Moth: IL In Photos

When we shared a story about a giant moth found in the south suburbs, the photos came flapping in.

ILLINOIS — When Ricky Castillo of Evergreen Park called Patch earlier in the week to report a "rare" find in his backyard, little did he know that he would set off the "giant moth" trend that has made its way to the Patch email inbox and comment section of various Facebook pages in Illinois.

Our "Giant Moth Found In Evergreen Park Backyard" story has brought out a bunch of moth sightings in the Chicagoland area, most of which have been reported in the south suburbs. Turns out the moths aren't so rare in Illinois after all.

So this week, instead of our traditional "everything and anywhere" Illinois photo gallery we are dedicating this week to the giant antheraea polyphemus moths that somehow have made the Chicagoland area its new place to be.

We'll get back to "anything and everywhere" next week, but for now — enjoy these giant moths.
