These Are IL's Top 10 Safest Cities, Study Says

According to the analysis conducted by Safewise, 58 percent of Illinois residents say they worry about crime on a daily basis.

A new study examines the safest cities in every state in the country. The rankings from Safewise "are intended to highlight cities with low per capita crime and ignite conversation and action around how to make all cities and communities safer."

In Illinois, the analysis found that the safest community is Campton Hills, located in Kane County. The village also finished at the top the prior two years.

"Everyone wants to feel safe at home," Safewise wrote. "Whether you're checking in on your current city or scouting out a new one, we've crunched the numbers on crime rates across the country."

Here are the top 10 safest communities in Illinois:

  1. Campton Hills
  2. Hawthorn Woods
  3. Pingree Grove
  4. Lindenhurst
  5. Western Springs
  6. Manhattan
  7. Sandwich
  8. Gilberts
  9. Homer Glen
  10. La Salle

The violent crime rate in Illinois is 3.37 incidents per 1,000 people, which is lower than the national average of 4.43. The property crime rate in the state is 20.95 per 1,000 people compared to the national average of 22.89.

According to the study, 58 percent of Illinois residents say they worry about crime on a daily basis. This is up from 48 percent the previous year and is the fifth highest percentage in the nation (US 46 percentage).

For security measures, the three most popular choice in order of usage are security cameras (45 percent), security systems (28 percent) and guard dogs (28 percent).
